Solution :-If your phone is booting alright but cannot enter download or recovery mode:- You can download Quick Boot app or Hot Boot app from play Store to get recovery mode in an instant and use update.zip from recovery to flash a 14 panel toggle (from SD card) , which will replace your Notification panel with 14 toggle switches including download and Recovery boot up on one click. Normal SGS i9000 buttons Normal SGS i9001 Buttons Normal SGS SHW M110S Buttons But this can Change in some ROM's like UGKG3, the 3 button combination to get into recovery mode can change from [Power+Volume Up+Home] to Power+CenterofVolume+home] In ICS recovery mode can change from [volume up+home+power] to [Volume up + down+home+power]. When using windows use this Reboot tool |
In the event this fails, you should First try
Power down, Pull out Battery, Pull out Sim Card and Ext. SD card, press power button for a Minute than power up again to try the combo buttons again... (This works for Jelly Bean, when you cannot get into recovery mode but only download mode) |
IF it Fails again
you can try power down, remove battery, press combo keys and insert battery 1) To enter download mode [volumedown+home+power] or as per your model 2) While in this position, insert the battery |
If it Fails again
Than you Should try ADB method via your PC1) Install adb drivers in your PC, (If you don't have one yet) 2) Click on Run on your PC start menu 3) Type:- cmd 4) Type:- adb reboot recovery or adb reboot downloadYour phone will go to recovery mode or download mode as typed |
or you can try some Tools like AndroPlatina Utlity or Easy Reboot at My Android Collection that will try to connect when the phone is powering on. or other methods like mentioned here |
IF still no luck
Than the JIG will do it, the Home Made USB JIG, can be made by yourself ( like here & here ) or can be bought from ebay or a parts supply store near you or you can borrow one here |
if the JIG fails, its time to use the JTAG remove the motherboard, connect it to the riff box and flash your version of bootloaders back onto the rom chips directly. If that failed it may be a hardware problem like this |

[sidetabs_item title="Cannot Connect to PC "]Unknown Device, getting Code 43 or any other code or NO response when using USB cable
Be aware that USB Slots (misaligned/damaged contacts) and USB cables can fail of a sudden, USB cables do get damaged often and can be the root cause of the problem . Using NON Compatible USB cable is another. Here is another XDA members findings aboutusb cables
1) Check phone USB slot for contacts problems (some get misaligned others gets damaged internally, and others somehow moved and needed a nudge to connect, so clean, just to be sure) How to clean also fix looseness Cleaning the USB slot and contacts will surely help as the Galaxy S model USB slot is prone to moisture damage where users have complained about failure to charge or overheating when charging in colder regions ) So a blow dryer may do wonders like
Even IF your USB cable can charge the phone, data connection contacts could have been lost due to internal pin damage as I have personally experienced it , not to forget misaligned pins on the micro B slot itself experienced by others.
2) If phone is not being detected of a sudden (Quick Guide)
1. Reboot PC after a power cord pull and Reboot Phone after a Battery Pull , try USB connection
- Try using a different Samsung USB cable (must be sumsung and nothing else)
- Try a different USB port (use USB slots at the back of PC)
Try on a lap top or different PC
Try install nexus drivers - needed for ICS firmwares
Make sure you don't have fast charge on.
Try moving the USB plug slightly, sideway or back and front, whilst connected to PC
Toggle WIFI and OFF it , reboot phone, check connection
<
p>Trick
Putting your Phone into download mode and connecting it with USB cable to PC will do it automatically. Meaning drivers will be installed by windows If there are none.
Trick
1. Turn ON Bluetooth with "make my device discoverable" checked
2. Connect the USB cable from the computer to the phone
3. you will get this message: " if you elect to use USB your Bluetooth connection will be interrupted - OK?"
4. Touch OK and connection problem is solved
3) Changes of ROM, also have pin configuration changes on the phone, (just like changes in combo key functions) ...so driver changes works for some

Setting up USB Drivers
Assuming you already had installed samsung USB drivers in your PC or KIES had been installed and still getting "Unknown USB Device"
According to Microsoft, the main reason for Unknown Device to display in your Device Manager is because you have a device that is not working correctly. To fix this issue, obtain an updated driver for the device.

Solutions
The Main solution off-course is to Reinstall the required Drivers
You should uninstall all the samsung USB drivers and reinstall the same and simply reboot your PC and let it re detect the required device driver for your USB device.
If unresolved, you can also try the following steps:
Go to your Device Manager
Right-click the Unknown USB Device
Click Properties
Click Driver tab
Click Uninstall
Click OK
Reboot your PC
Check if it already detects the Device
Others methods to solve this :-
1) UNPLUG your PC , meaning shutdown your PC and pull out its power cord, give it a rest about few minutes, than replug and start your PC... try a different USB slot, don't use any other USB device and make sure KIES is not running or better still uninstall KIES altogether IF you are using Odin
Same is true for your phone too, as KIES itself would request you to reboot your phone, when it troubleshoots connection problems. powering the device down completely, plugging it into USB, then powering it on. Windows should find the correct drivers for it.
Check if this works, If it fails
2) Delete the "Unknown device from the USB list" in your Device Manager (Win XP 32bit) and re-connected your phone again into a different USB port , windown will install the required drivers
Check if it works, If it fails
3) Suggest you enter control panel and uninstall , KIES as well as samsung USB drivers from your PC, reboot your PC after uninstallation , than connect your phone using usb cable, let windows search for the driver by itself and install by itself...If all goes well you should be able to use odin ( once windows confirms installing the required driver)
You must allow a few minutes for windows to install all the required drivers, so be patient here.
In the event windows cannot locate samsung usb drivers , you can help by installing the drivers you downloaded earlier
For Vista x64 users , this is also an option http://cagnazzo.name/drupal/vista_corrupted_driverstore
4) At times just plugging in the USB into one slot than changing to another slot (when it fails) had resolved this issue for some or you can do the same by Entering *#7284# in your phone dialer, For usb. select the PDA. if it already selected to PDA. reselect it by selecting MODEM and then PDA again.. Only change the USB setting.. and then press back.
5) Not to Forget a guide to MTP device Fix download PDF
6) For the RAPI.dll problem
For windows 7 (and probably for vista also):
Go to C:Users[YourUsername]AppDataLocalTempKiesInstallCabFileOsDependen t[Vista/XP]Program FilesCommon FilesSamsungDeviceService
Copy the two .cab files and paste them on your desktop.
Click two times on them and take the .dll files inside them. So,
paste only the two .dll files in the Kies installation Path (C:Program Files SamsungKies)
Now it should work
better to put in these folders also
program files/samsung/Usb drivers
program files/common files/Samsung/DeviceService
For XP:
Open the following folder: "program files/common files/Samsung/DeviceService"
Search for rapi.dll and _ceutil.dll and copy to desktop
Rename the dlls removing the ""
Drop the "rapi.dll" and "ceutil.dll" (renamed) into following folders:
program files/samsung/Kies
program files/samsung/Usb drivers
program files/common files/Samsung/DeviceService
In my own experience, even when it gets resolved today, it can crop up some-other day , so it helps in knowing all the possibilities as to why connections with USB cable can be tricky for some.
Lastly in my personal experience I found that using My phoneexplorer ( in WIFI or Blue Tooth modes) was far much more easier than KIES for File transfers and using Odin3 was far much more easier than Kies for Flashing

[sidetabs_item title="Odin gets Stuck "] <ID:0/008> Set PIT file. or <ID:0/003> SetupConnection.. or <ID:0/007> Removed!
When using Odin to Flash, Open task manager and close these : Kies.exe , KiesTrayAgent.exe, and KiesPDLR.exeIF your downloaded File (.tar, .zip, .md5 .rar ) is corrupted, Odin could get stuck too, so download from another source, if it happens repeatedly
Solution First reboot PC after a power cord unplug and also reboot the Phone after a battery pull. Always use a Fresh Odin after any attempt to flash, than make sure you "Uncheck Repartition", If you had checked it or clicked Pit when you are not using one. You should also be running Odin as an Admin and ensure that KIES is not running when using Odin. Most of all, only use Samsung USB cable and not others as they may be incompatible and trying it out on a lap top or another PC ( when it happens repeatedly) |

[sidetabs_item title="Lost my IMEI or changed on upgrading to JB CM 10 "]
Solution:- Reason is you had Jumped from GB to JB (should be on ICS before JB), so now you need to1) Download Root Explorer, or Xplore, or any root browser from Play Store and use it to 2) Search you internal SD card for sdcard/backup/efs or any other backup you have for your efs 3) Copy nv_data.bin, nv_data.bin.md5 paste them (means overwrite existing files) into /efs in your Internal Phone memory 4) Fix permissions by Click on efs folder and keep it pressed to open the menu and click on permissions and set them to rw_r_r_ ( Owner = read & write - Group = read only and Others = Read only), after this Save using menu and exit using menu 5) Power down phone and reboot into recovery and wipe cache before rebooting phone to get back your original IMEI or you can start from the beginning.. go back to GB 2.36 (use a JVU ROM + Root, upgrade to ICS CM 9 and than to CM10 Solution for i9000 on JB:-Try not to jump from Gingerbread to Jellybean, as all upgrades should be done progressively. meaning you need to be on a GB 2.3.6> than into ICS and finally into JB.For others, like missing IMEI, NO service, NO network problems, scroll down to EFS problems and Solutions |

[sidetabs_item title=" Boot Loops, Booting Problems, Stuck at Boot Screen"]
Solution:- Boot Loops, Lags and FC's are often caused by not clearing and wiping cache, data and dalvik cache from recovery console prior to and after flashing a new ROM. |
Solution:- Flash a 512 Pit File using Odin3 v1.0 with Repartition unticked (only Odin3 version 1.0 can flash this way) |
Solution:- Flash a 512 PIT FILE with REPARTITION MUST BE UNCHECKED with a kernel or just the kernel For i9000 on Gingerbread with GB Semaphore Kernel For i9000 on ICS with ICS Semaphore Kernel phone will Boot up For i9000 on Jelly Bean Semaphore JB kernel |
When none of the above solved your problem. its time to flash a Rescue kit from My Android Collections, with a PIT File and Repartition (Ticked) |
